Legendary powers are often the reason a character suddenly stops feeling weak in Diablo 4. A weapon may have solid damage, but the right Aspect can change how an entire skill works, from adding extra projectiles to creating a defensive shield at the moment you need it. That is why players looking through D4 items tend to check more than item level. The power printed on the gear matters just as much, especially once a build begins to take shape.
The Occultist's real job
You will meet the Occultist fairly early, usually in a main town such as Kyovashad. Look for the triskelion-shaped symbol on the map. At first, this vendor can seem like another crafting stop, but it quickly becomes part of the normal gear routine. The Occultist lets you imprint an Aspect onto eligible equipment, reroll certain affixes, and handle other build adjustments. If a Rare item has the stats you want but lacks a useful power, imprinting can turn it into a Legendary without forcing you to wait for a lucky drop.
Why salvaging is now more important
Older versions of Diablo 4 made players extract Aspects from Legendary gear and store them as single-use items. It worked, but it was a pain. Inventory space vanished fast, and it was easy to save an Aspect for too long, then forget where it went. Since the Loot Reborn changes, the smarter habit is usually to salvage unwanted Legendary items at the Blacksmith. When you salvage one, its Aspect is recorded in the Codex of Power. Better rolls improve the saved version, so there is no need to hang onto piles of duplicate gear.
Codex and drop comparison
The Codex is not just a list of effects. It is a long-term record of the best Aspect rolls your account has found. Dungeon rewards still give players a dependable route to many basic powers, which helps a lot while levelling. Those starter versions may not be perfect, though. A stronger Legendary drop can upgrade the Codex later.
| Source | What it gives | Best use |
| Dungeon completion | Base Codex Aspect | Starting a build |
| Legendary salvage | Saved or upgraded Aspect roll | Improving endgame gear |
| Occultist imprint | Aspect placed on equipment | Finishing a gear upgrade |
Making each imprint count
It pays to slow down before imprinting your best item. Check the slot first, since some Aspects are stronger on particular equipment types, while others belong on rings, armour, or weapons for practical reasons. You will also want enough crafting materials and gold ready before making several changes in a row. Players who keep a reserve of cheap Diablo IV Gold can test a new setup without putting off useful upgrades, then spend more time fighting through higher-tier content instead of sorting old loot.
