Modern Warfare 4 gives players a choice that will shape the way they spend their time online. When you reach the top Soldier Rank, you can either rebuild your progression for stronger long-term rewards or keep the equipment you have already earned. That decision may matter even more if you are testing new builds through MW4 Bot Lobbies, where a familiar loadout can save time while you learn the new systems.
Two Routes, Two Very Different Grinds
Classic Prestige is aimed at players who still enjoy starting over. Your rank drops, Create-a-Class items become locked again, and you work through the unlock track from the beginning. It is a proper commitment. The appeal is a faster XP rate and access to rewards that will not be available on the more relaxed route.
Regular Prestige takes the pressure off. Your level returns to 1, but your weapons, equipment, attachments, and saved loadout options stay with you. You still earn Prestige rewards and hit new milestones, only without repeating the same unlock work every time. For anyone with limited playtime, that could be the sensible pick.
| Feature | Classic Prestige | Regular Prestige |
|---|---|---|
| Rank progression | Restarts from the beginning. | Restarts from Level 1. |
| Loadout access | Items must be unlocked again. | Existing equipment remains available. |
| XP rate | Increased rate confirmed. | No matching increase announced. |
| Rewards | Exclusive Prestige rewards. | Its own reward milestones. |
What Players Still Need to Watch
Infinity Ward has not filled in every gap yet. The maximum Soldier Rank, the number of launch Prestige levels, the exact XP bonus, and the full reward list are still pending. It is also unclear whether weapon levels and Apex Attachment progress will be affected by Classic Prestige. The same goes for switching paths. You might choose separately each time, or your first decision might stick.
Check whether weapon progress survives a Classic reset.
See if the XP increase is large enough to justify rebuilding.
Confirm whether path changes are allowed between Prestige levels.
Weapons, Gunny, and the Bigger Progression Picture
Gunsmith is being expanded with attachments shared between weapon classes, so some unlock work should carry more value. Fully progressing a weapon also earns Apex Attachments, which can alter recoil, handling, stealth, or tactical use. Regular Prestige looks helpful here because you can keep working on a favourite rifle instead of putting it aside. Gunny should make the process less fiddly by suggesting close-, medium-, and long-range builds, though you can change every attachment yourself.
Release Details and the Practical Choice
The Open Beta starts with preorder access from August 21 to August 25, 2026, followed by wider access from August 28 to September 1. Campaign Early Access begins October 16, and the full release arrives October 23 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, Steam, Battle.net, and Nintendo Switch 2. Classic suits players who like a long grind and rare rewards. Regular fits players who would rather keep playing with their best gear. Keep an eye on CoD MW4 Redeem Codes as well, since extra progression details may appear alongside pre-release updates.
